Another spectacular offering from DSP, Rembowski's extraordinary regimental history of the Imperial Guard Polish lancers can not be recommended too highly. Nearly one thousand pages in length, few regimental histories come close in being so extensive. The journal of Général Dautancourt, affectionately referred to as Papa by the troopers, provides nearly a daily account of the regiment's activities from its formation to disbandment. A service registry of over two hundred officers and alphabetical listing of the troopers enables historians to analyze the regiment's composition in depth. Moreover, Général Zaluski's detailed description of the regiment's uniform is supplemented by a series of plates by Gembarzewski. Over eighty plates of uniforms, portraits, battle scenes, and facsimiles of documents are included. Somo-Sierra was a hard day for the regiment and holds a special place in its history; accordingly a section is included of marches, songs, and poetry consecrating that day. Don't miss this opportunity to obtain possibly the rarest Napoleonic book ever published. Only two non-circulating copies listed in US libraries. Only two copies offered at estate sale / auction in the last 10 years; the most recent sold for nearly $4,000.00 |
